CAMP HORSTICK – 2010
First Camp of the Decade
July 5 – July 10
Greetings, All -- From Deacon Janet Sterken
Fr. Art has asked me to be the director for Camp Horstick in 2010, and I'm thrilled to have accepted the invitation.
You'll be receiving information from me periodically about camp, but first up is a request to put the topic on the agenda for annual meetings.
Please announce the dates (July 5th - July 10th) and ask for people to consider which of your young people (those having completed the 2nd grade thru high school seniors) would like to go to camp. Then begin the conversation about how to raise funds to support your young people in the experience. The cost (unless Fr. Art tells us differently) is $275.00 per camper, with a family cap of $750.00.
I know there are some parishes from which we have not had campers. I'm hoping this year we can have every parish represented. We are also in need of adult leaders, so if you could add that to the conversation to be had at the annual meeting, that would be great. It is not necessary for an adult leader to have a child attending camp. You can just come for the fun. It's a good time to be a kid yourself, and how often does that opportunity arise?
I'd also ask for each priest and deacon to consider joining our young people at some point during the camp week. Come for a meal or an adventure. Come for the talent show or a Eucharist. Come and support the generation of Christians coming up in our parishes. Watch as the light of Christ is ignited in them and then be there to nurture the flame. It's going to be a great year, and camp is an annual highlight for our young people. We need your support. Thank you for your time and consideration.

The President of the Standing Committee, Fr. Art Hancock says, “There is an upcoming Missional Conference that will be put together by the WCC and which the Standing Committee ha approved for the Diocese of Eau Claire to be a co-sponsor. It will cost nothing, and seems right up the alley of the discussion that many of us are having in the Diocese concerning the needed direction of our congregations.”

Dr. David Tiede (past president of Luther Seminary and currently on the faculty at Augsburg College) to offer a full day on his new work on Luke as the Apostolic Gospel.
Dr. Tiede will share his work on Luke, since it I focused on what Luke (and Acts) has to say to our long overdue emphasis on equipping congregations to be missional centers, rather than country clubs.
